Hello, I haven't been here since the early 2000s and all this time never had problems, I've had this computer I'm using since 2008 now and everything was ok till last night. It's not too bad, but I believe I have a virus...some of the programs I use will not work now, and occasionally I get a message saying that "power.exe" or similar has failed...there's another word besides "power" and "exe" but it hasn't come up for a while and I don't remember, and pc programs a

DNS Hijack?

Hi for the last month I noticed a very odd behavior in my browser: it would time out and not load random pages including many known websites (like microsoft.com and so on). Those same websites would be accessible though from other machines on my home network. Trying to find out why I tried the following steps: reinstalled chrome, firefox and safari; full scan of system with antivirus and two malware checkers as well as TDSSKiller, added OpenDNS and Google DNS servers. It was not until I looked

hijacked home page - Firefox

Hi, When starting FF, the home page directs to bitable.com instead of my normal home page. No matter what I do, it always starts on that page. I went into about:config, and looked for browser.newtab.url. There I found a link to bitable. I changed this line to Default (about.newtab) but it hasn't made any difference, it still loads up the bitable page. I tried Safe Mode but it still redirects. I disabled all Plugins etc and restarted with no luck. I have three profiles and it's the same for all

Unwanted website link keeps appearing

I have recently changed my browser to IE11, and cannot understand why I keep seeing links to previously looked at websites. In other words, if I am looking at any website, there is always a link showing to something I have looked at before and which I do not want showing. As an example, I went to the website of a local butchers in London, to get some idea of their products and prices, and when I later open any another website which has no connection, there is always a link showing for the butch

I recently replaced the main HDD on this rig. Ever since I've had a "bug" annoying me. It's a "Windows Installer" that pops up saying it can't find a .msi. Possible Virus or malware

I recently had to update my anti-virus program. It was on 9-21-14. I had Kaspersky's Internet Security 2014. I had downloaded from CD disk. When I upgraded this year I downloaded Internet Security 2015 from the internet. I had completely taken the 2014 version off thru the Control Panel. Every since doing that, the computer has been very slow to boot up and go from program to program. It takes several minutes to load a website page. That problem come and goes though. Another problem I'm

PCMatic Ads

The adds for PCMatic are continuing at full speed. I see that strange looking guy with the weird hair in the black t-shirt everywhere: on TV, internet sites, newspapers ... I expect on billboards next. Most folks, sooner or later, find their computers running slow, or generally misbehaving. They look for a quick fix and the PCMatic commercial promises to do this for $50/year. It appears to be a promise that they cannot deliver. People have really a desperate need for a product that ca

Request for Assistance Dealing with "Trojan Gen.2" (Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit)

Hello: Having continuing issues with what Norton Internet Security is reporting to be "Trojan Gen.2". Norton appeared to have made an initial run at removing it, but every 6-12 hours I'm getting a Norton pop-up warning in lower right of screen: "autoprotect is processing security risk Trojan.gen.2". Additionally, had a first BSOD overnight that may be related to this virus. A Norton quick scan also did not locate or remedy the problem. Computer seems to be running at no

Problem Loading Wikipedia and other websites

Approximately one week ago, I noticed that no Wikipedia articles would not load under any circumstances. More suspiciously, yesterday when I tried to search this problem, the Google search links would not load (time out) that were related to this problem. I have tried different web browsers (Internet Explorer, Chrome), anti viral software (Malewarebytes, TDkiller, AVG, combo killer, CCleaner, Rootkit scan, SpybotS&D) and shutting down my firewall. I have also tried starting computer in save

Veteran needs help with About.Blank hijack and more....Thanks in advance

I'm trying to resolve some issues with my college age daughter's laptop while she is in town. She is currently seeing About.Blank when she tries to log into IE. Bitdefender has also quarantined ZOEK.exe. I think she also had a lot of adware (desktemp monitor). It was experiencing Proxy server Not Responding this morning. I think I have cleared that and now About.Blank issues. I have run adware, Malware Bytes and spybot. Here is the sysinfo.... Tech Support Guy System Info Utility versi

Legal? Will my friends be caught?

Hello, I apologize in advance if I am posting this in the wrong place or if this breaks the forum rules. It is a legitimate question with pure intentions so I think it only reinforces forum rules so anyway here it goes. I know a lot of friends who download episodes of TV just about every day (practically right after airing) from websites like xxxxx, xxxxx, and a lot of others of the like. They are convinced that they will not be caught because they are not using torrents (therefore not upload
