My heart broke watching this elderly Singaporean struggling for a living

My heart broke watching this senior citizen sweeping the concrete floor outside Singapore River at The Central.

He must in his 70s as his face seems weather-beaten and his body slow to move.

He went about his work gingerly as he swept the floor patiently with a dustpan and broom oblivious to the people who walk past him.

I was wondering if he is really so free like the ministers say and want to spend his time fruitfully by working in his twilight years when he can spend it better playing with his grandchildren.

Or does he has any choice but to work in order to survive in this costliest city of the world?

I also wonder what will the thousands of tourists walking past that area think of our country if senior citizens need to work to fend for themselves?

They should ban senior citizen hiring just like they do with child labour!

Watch out Singaporeans, you may be working as a cleaner in your old age till you die…because our retirement system is almost non-existent and you need to be self-sufficient while you save up for your own retirement.
This government doesn’t believe in pampering the people but yet pay themselves millions.

This video lasts 90 seconds.

Setting up a register of free tradesmen for the struggling elderly

I often work closely within the construction industry and have many contacts in the way of business owners and highly skilled tradesmen. For a while now I have been a little bothered about how aged vulnerable people, sometimes disabled are paying out money they can ill afford to have small jobs done around their homes. Only today I met a lovely 75 year old lady on her own who has breathing problems and arthritis in her hands. She occasionally needs to move furniture or change light bulbs, som...

[TNP] Singaporean spend 9 mins 50 secs watching on average

So, how long can Singaporeans, uh, last on sites? Well, according to stats recently released by a site, Singaporeans clock in an average of 9 mins 50 secs on the site. That's a far cry from one of the top performers, China, which clocks in an average of 14 mins 34 secs. Over in neighbouring Malaysia, the city which spends the most time on the site is Kuala Terengganu (the capital of Terengganu), clocking in an average of 12 mins 58 secs. They're followed by Kuala Lumpur, which has an ave...

Just finished watching ESPN 30 for 30 Broke.....

which is about how athletes (some very surprising names among the not so surprising) go broke after they retire. According to the documentary, 60% of NBA players are broke within 3 years of retirement. Ditto for NFL players to the tune of 50%. Other athletes profiled get taken to the cleaners by wives, child support, greedy parents and other family and friends. It runs the gamut. My question to the forum is...... If you had a professional athlete's salary when you were 21-25 years old, would...

WipEout, Studio Liverpool, Firesprite. Sony broke my heart.

I was just reading this article and I was given some hope in that remnants of Sony's Studio Liverpool have joined forces and are now developing software by the name Firesprite. I'd like to hope that they might revive their old franchises - particularly WipEout - but it seems that they would not be free to do so without Sony's permission. And so, this is a plea to Sony, I guess, please allow Firesprite to revive, if they choose, their old franchises - of which there were many quality ti...
