Thoughts on extending a network

I'm trying to solve a problem with wifi in my house. The situation is this: my house is large, over 2600sf. The modem and Airport Extreme(4th gen) is located at one end of my house in the living room, where the Apple TV is. My computer is located at the opposite end of the house in the family room, about 80 feet away and half a floor down(split level). I recently had been using an Airport Express in the family room to extend the network to help with wifi coverage to the computer and the bedrooms...

Extending network outdoors

Hi all - I'll try and make this short. My home network is based off an Airport extreme and two Airport expresses which extend the network to second floor and basement. Works fine. I want to extend the network down to our beach access (read no power available), but have absolutely no idea how to boost the signal down there. I've looked at antenna's (which I've used before with little to no effect) and recently I've looked at "access points", but as I read it they are more for receivi...

Wireless network using multiple APs

Hi, Hope someone can advise me on this. I have a netgear wireless modem router which goes into a 24 port switch and then into a cat5 network. The site is quite spread out and I want to add more wireless access points to the network. In my ignorance I thought that I could just plug the three access poits into cat5 sockets and jobs done...... But after reading some of the forums it looks much more complicated. I haven't bought the access points yet and could buy cable modems if it is easier. F...

Extending wireless network?

I live in a ranch style house which is shaped like a horseshoe. At the very end of one end of the house (one end of the horseshoe), I have an airport extreme connected to the network via Ethernet. At the end of the L just before the house makes a turn to the other end of the horseshoe, I have an airport express plugged into the wall which is extending my network. Unfortunately, I lose the WIFI about 1/3 of the way down the hallway on the other end of the house. What is the best way to extend the...

Extending Wireless Network Help

Hi all.   We currently have our broadband connected to a Netgear DGND3300. The wireless strength isn't great in my room and did try before to extend it by connecting a Netgear DG834G to it and using it as a wireless switch, but the wireless didnt work very well, but if i plugged in devices to it, it worked fine. So now, we are about to upgrade to BT fiber optic broadband, which comes with a BT home hub 5. Does anyone know if its possible to plug in my current router and use it as a wireless...

BSOD when extending Connectify network, error 0x000000d1

So I'm trying to use a TP-link WA850RE range extender to extend the range of my connectify hotspot off my desktop computer. The desktop is using a TP-link WN822N adapter, and I've updated the drivers to the latest versions. The extender has been set-up using it's setup wizard, but the second it connects to the hotspot, my desktop Bluescreens. I've been trying to fix it for the last week, and......

Help Extending home Network

With my current setup, only my basement is wired with CAT 6. Network connections on my main floor are only via wi-fi. I am looking at extending my wired network to the main floor for some new HD TV's. I have access to run wiring through my attic. I'm also going to by running cox to the rooms. I'm not real keen on cutting a hole large enough to run 4 CAT6 along with 1 coax cable. I'm in Minnesota and attics get hot in the summer and cold in the winter which seems to make putting a switch i...

network W7-W8.1 using ethernet cable

I just did a clean install of a W7 ultimate pc and have been trying for hours to set up a network with a W8.1 laptop. This was working before the clean install but I can't remember how do do it. I do not have a router and am using a 'functioning' twisted Ethernet cable. The W8.1 laptop is connected to the Internet via a Vodafone stick/pen and I am not trying to link the two computers via wi-fi. I simply want to copy files between the two machines.
