Setting up a shrimp tank

Hi guys, I'm new here and this is my first time setting up a shrimp tank and getting a pet.

So I was wondering what should my tank include.
I have done some research on planted tanks, but I'm not sure what plants should I get.

Also, I read online that before people introduce their shrimp, they cycle their tanks for quite some time.

What does cycling the tanks do?

So currently I got my filter, air pump, sand ( I don't know what kind, my dad bought it) and 2 fish tank ( both 2 ft)

Do I lack anything else? Please advice

I'm setting up a new 2 feet shrimp tank. It's going to have a 2x air-pump driven UGF and also a external canister filter that will be connected to a chiller. ADA of RAC active soil for shrimp only tank???

Hi all bros, Planning to setup another 3 ft tank and having a hard time to decide between ADA or RAC soil. Have mixed feeling for both after reading forum feedbacks. ADA need longer cycling period with frequent water changes. Need to be careful with ammonia spikes. RAC required lesser cycling period but PH buffering time is shorter. Some say unstable afer 6 mths. Thus, just ot seek advise here which one should I choose? Thanks in advance.... ...

1ft Cube Hairgrass Shrimp Tank

My real intention for doing this tank is to experiment with LED lighting as an economical way to run beautiful high tech tank. I stress on economical because >90% of LED lighting products out there are not truly performing to potential based on the semiconductor LEDs they use, i.e, they are not much more efficient than T5 or PL-Ls. So this rescape is really to test what my DIY light is capable of. Some of you may be familiar with my previous setup which was japan hairgrass/staurogyne repens [...

Setting up a Sulawesi tank

As promised...... Here is my new 2ft Sulawesi tank setup process for reference. I use Sulawesi Minerals 8.5 1.jpg A measuring spoon is enclosed in the container. A slightly heaped measuring spoon (around 3 g) to every 20 liters of water used. 2.jpg I used this Life brand water from NTUC. For a 2ft tank you need around 33 bottles of 1.5 liters. This makes up to 2.5 spoons of Sulawesi minerals 8.5 3.jpg I've added these directly into the tank and add a air filter to the tank to let the min...

1ft Office shrimp tank.

1ft Office shrimp tank. Hey, thought I'd document my shrimp tank in the office i set up about almost two months ago. I've been contemplating whether to get CO2 for this tank, since I already have one at home, i wasn't too keen on buying an entirely new set for the office. Eventually I grew impatient from the lack of CO2, and poor lighting, i went and gave the disposable system from up-aqua. NOT BAD LEH. the included items damn cui really, but co2 is co2. :D Here is a photo before I changed...
